Music that I like again!
Hello!
It's time again to talk about one of the musical groups that inspire me in my life. I've talked previously about people who are still making music, and whose creativity is ongoing, but I'd like to speak briefly on someone who passed away about 10 years ago, but is still greatly influential to me today.
Warren Zevon was an American musician who played piano and guitar, and wrote songs that featured both along with his raspy, throaty voice. His first album came out in the early 1970s and he toured and made music up until his death in 2005 from cancer.
Why I enjoy his music is because of his incredible talent with his instruments of choice, but also because what he chose to sing about could be both comedic and sad, often at the same time. One of my favourites is song called "Werewolves of London". It's a strange tune really only talking about werewolves living in London, doing a dance called the Werewolves of London. It's poppy and weird and fun all at the same time.
However, like I mentioned, his music could also be truly sad. "Keep me in your heart" is a song written near the end of his life dealing with the inevitability of death and the people that he'd be leaving behind. It's honest and dark and sad, and something truly beautiful.
Warren Zevon is not someone that I listen to everyday, like some of the other musicians that I've mentioned on this blog before, but whenever I do listen to him, I always hear something new, and it always reminds me of why I love listening to him in the first place.
