Warm Bowls & Warm Hearts in Uwajima

Sitting in a cozy little shop in beautiful Uwajima, I savored a bowl of tai meshi ochazuke, the warm broth melding perfectly with the fresh sea bream and rice. There’s something about the flavors here—simple yet rich, like the fertile waters that make Uwajima’s seafood some of the best in Japan. The locals, always so affectionate and welcoming, made the experience even more special. I can’t wait to go back.

Music Inspiration

I think I want to spend some time studying traditional Japanese music and instrumentation. I love listening to traditional music from many cultures, but most of my life I've listened to Irish traditional music, since that's where a large part of my heritage is. When I was in university and grad school I studied music history, but it was all western music. I really want to find a class or do some independent research into traditional Japanese music especially, as well as Chinese, Korean, and maybe even Thai music. So I'll be looking for some resources after my visit with my family is done. Until then, I'll be building playlists so I can listen to as much music as I can!

Pizza Pizza!

This is a little crazy to admit but I've never gotten pizza for myself in Japan. Last weekend I ordered pizza online and I didn't realize there was an option to pay with cash at pickup or even delivery. I had been avoiding ordering online because I don't have a Japanese credit card, so I was trying to avoid the whole situation. But I randomly checked out the online ordering process and I saw the option to pay in person with cash. This changes everything, and I can see myself buying A LOT more pizza in the future.
