Hiroshima Trip, Day 2
So I just spent my first night "camping out". It wasn't terrible; definitely interesting. I found that I was never completely asleep. Instead, it seemed like I was in a constant state of being half-awake. Was a bit itchy, and very hot in the beginning (at least it was in my sleeping bag). It was around 2 am when it started to really cool down. I was relieved. I didn't want to be more exposed than I already was by not being in my sleeping bag. I wasn't bothered by any animals, nor any bugs that I was aware of (although I think I did get bitten once or twice, maybe). I only saw one person come through, but he quite possibly had been sleeping there earlier, because I didn't hear him coming, I only heard him when he was leaving. I got up about 5, because it was starting to get light out, and I don't think I could really sleep anymore (especially if people start wandering through now). So I headed back to the station, and waited to catch a train to Tadanoumi, to get to Okunoshima.

I was being silly, thinking I can only catch the train from the underground tunnel (the shutters were still down). I ended up waiting for a while before I realized my mistake. I eventually caught my train, and went on a ride for about two hours (including 1 transfer). I was half asleep for a good portion of the ride (really, no surprise there). When I finally arrived, I made my way around to the harbor, where I am able to catch the next boat out (it was leaving almost as soon as I made it there). It had been drizzling the whole time since I left the station, but fortunately it hadn't gotten any harder since. Plus, I had brought along a raincoat, just in case. I arrived at the island and started wandering about. There were rabbits around, though not in the huge swarms I saw on the internet. Maybe it was because of the weather, or time of year. I walked around, exploring the island. I stopped by the visitor center. I went and saw the little shrine. I made my way up and downhill, though not for long, as my knee started hurting again (from a recent injury). I eventually found my way to the resort, hoping they had a sento. They did not, which was unfortunate, because I really wanted to get cleaned up. I figured I would have to head back earlier and try to find one in the city.

Back in Hiroshima, I headed to info desk to ask about sento. They pointed me in two directions; one is 10 minutes north of the station. the other, somewhere to the south. I decide to go to the latter, as it was closer to the shopping district, where i would go again for food. It took me a while to find it, as i was on foot and didn't have a (proper) map. I had to ask for directions twice. When I finally made it, I enjoyed the hell out of that bath. It was quite small, a bit seedy looking, and I am pretty sure it catered to Yakuza, but it got job done. I also made a friend there. He is from Hiroshima, but is going to school in Kochi (go figure). We decided to friend each other on Facebook, whoever gets to their account first. I leave the bath not long after, feeling super refreshed. Once out of the sento, I make my way back to Okinomimura, where I saw a tsukemen shop the last time. I grabbed dinner there; it was pretty good. They had a spicy dish that was a Hiroshima specialty? I'm not sure, but you can alter the degree of spiciness to it. I should have made my dish spicier. And smaller. Afterwards, i wander through Don Quixote, because I had nothing better to do. At the basement level was an arcade. I saw lots of games for the first time there, such as the rhythm game that reminded me of DDR, but for your hands! It made me wish I had some spending money, hahaha.

Once I was done looking around, I hung out in the small plaza right outside of Don Quixote. There were lots of people hanging around there. It wasn't long before I headed back to station to wash up. Then it was back to my sleeping spot by the park.
