Wat Pha Sorn Kaew- The Glass Temple
Nestled between lush mountains and featuring a stunning view, Wat Pha Sorn Kaew is a Buddhist site of worship in the province of Phetchabun. The complex includes a preaching hall, pagoda, and elegant gardens. The scenic location was chosen for the temple with the hope that the natural beauty of the area would inspire meditation. Emphasizing the Buddhist principle of Foundation of Mindfulness, many flock here not to just admire the temple's beauty but also to seek peace, simplicity, and purity of body and mind.
Wat Pha Sorn Kaew finished construction in 2004 and was formally recognized as a temple by the government in 2010. The temple and its grounds are covered in the most dazzling mosaics that really do take your breath away. When I came to visit, my eyes just wanted to stop and drink in all the vibrant colors and intricate designs. The swirling patterns are made from over 5 million shards of pottery, glass, tiles and China sets. All of the designs are unique and mesmerizing- it's hard to tear your eyes away from this gorgeous temple.
Across the way sit five peaceful, white Buddhas that gradually increase in size from modest to spectacular. When I first stepped foot onto the grounds, I couldn't believe the beauty of this statue. The peaceful yet powerful deity towers over all within its gaze and looks gently across the forested landscape.
Aside from the mosaic work and impressive statues, the architecture of the complex also adds to the beauty. Golden structures with meditating Buddhas are scattered about, and the buildings have an innovative design that's unlike any other temple in the country. Everywhere you turn, your eyes are met with beautiful, captivating sights. As you soak it in, you just can't get enough.
