Where's my train!?

Last Saturday, I learned that Japanese trains are not perfect. I finished work in Kokubunji Gem School and found myself waiting around Hashioka station.
There was a frazzled station lady who was talking to all of the passengers, and the passengers had stopped what they were doing.
The woman said there was a broken down train and as a result, the trains that stop at Hashioka were going to be late.
"How late?" I asked. "10, 15 minutes?"
She shocked me by saying that she had no idea.
I was flabbergasted. I thought I could always rely on a train to get me home. Now I see that one broken train had the potential to ruin what was left of my Saturday. I called around to a few other teachers and got a car ride home from one of them. I was thankful that I had my phone on me, fully charged, and access to the other Gem Schools. This kind of scenario is a good wake-up call in being prepared.
