On Thursday I went to a Mochi making party in Imazu-cho. It was a lot of fun. They explained how the Mochi rice was left to soak in water, then steamed, and then I watched them prepare it in the big stone mortar. They even let me swing the hammer a few times, but I was really worried I might miss and hit someone. Luckily, that didn't happen. After the first batch was done they showed me how to roll it into a ball around the sweet bean paste. The best part, though, was when we got to eat it.
