Valentine's Day (When I was a kid)

Valentines Day (When I was a kid)

The other day, I was pleasantly surprised to see anime-themed valentine chocolate! In America, you might find a Star Wars or Disney princess themed sort of heart-shaped box, but not a full shaped chocolate! How cute!

Valentines day is a holiday for both kids and adults. Adults stress over getting each other a romantic or thoughtful present, and almost always buy a box of chocolates. Kids buy paper Valentine packs to give to their classmates.

When I was in elementary school, we would be told to buy enough valentines for each kid in our class. That way, there was no competition and no one felt bad. It wasn't all that fun to write the names of 15 or 20 kids in my class, but I do appreciate how my teachers didn't let valentine's day become a competition. A kid might tape a lollipop or a piece of chocolate to the paper. At the party, every kid would decorate a box or bag and set it on their desk. Then each student would walk around with their valentines and put them in the box.

I'm hoping that friends of mine will scoop up a few boxes I can hand them out next year to my students!
