Journey to Kyoto! Day 3
The morning of Day 3, another person leaves to return home, which has reduced our merry band of travelers to a group of three. Though a bit sad, we were determined to have as much fun as possible in their place! That morning started off with a traditional Japanese breakfast consisting of a piece of salmon, egg, spinach roll, and soup. It was quite nice, and a great way to start off the day. So the three of us went out exploring (I unfortunately cannot remember the name of the places we went to that day). There were many people everywhere, and lots of shops as well. This one we went into was a dedicated Studio Ghibli shop, with all kinds of merchandise related to various Ghibli movies. Over in the corner there was also a giant stuffed Totoro, which you can take pictures with.

We also stopped by this pottery shop, where we were able to make our own cups! It was fun. We got all dirty with clay, each of us forming different shapes for our cups. We even get to have something inscribed at the bottom (like our name, or something). Unfortunately, it takes a while for it to be heated and finished, so we will have to wait to get it in the mail. I can't wait to see how it turned out!
After we were finished in that area, we went to another temple, a favorite of one of us travelers. It was getting late at this time, so we had to run there if we wanted to check it out before it closed. We were able to make it in time to enjoy it for a few minutes, though we also needed time to catch our breath, hahaha. The place was quite nice. It had a really big tree out in the front that looked like it had been there for ages. It was definitely a cool looking tree. The place also had a nice little pond, which had a koi in it! All the other ponds and lakes we came across were empty (of fish, at least; there were ducks at Kinkakuji). I was happy to see that, though I am not exactly sure why, haha.

Not too long after that, we decided to head back and call it a night...not! It was New Year's Eve, so of course we had to go out to a temple (after a bit of rest). Of course, we went to one that was nearby where we were staying, as we probably couldn't get a bus or anything after midnight. I was quite surprised by the number of people at the temple. I thought a big party was gonna break out! But then, we are in Japan, not the U.S., so that definitely wouldn't have happened. It was still a fun night, the three of us hanging out, and all these people around also having a pretty good time.
