Book haul
During the winter holiday I took the a 6 day trip to Tokyo to do some sight seeing and meet a friend of mine, but i also took advantage of the amount of Book Offs in Tokyo! The reason I went to plenty of Book Offs in Tokyo is mainly because of the vast selection of cheap English books available at some locations.
The one location that I didn't hear anything about from any blog posts about finding English books in Tokyo was the Book Off in Shibuya. I honestly didn't have any intention to go into this location, however I was very happy that i did. The Book Off in Shibuya has a large wall of books in English with the mass majority of the books being priced at 300 yen, which is insane for some of the books i picked up at the Shibuya Book Off.
Some notable books I got would be Saul Kripke's "Wittgenstein: On Rules and Private Language", "What is Cognitive Science?", and Quine's "From a Logical Point of view" (which I already have, but I bought it just because of the price point). My basket was filled to the brim and I was a very happy man, however another surprise was lurking in this Shibuya Book Off. I THINK I was shopping with the popular Japanese writer Haruki Murakami. Now, the only reason I say this is because the guy looked a lot like him and he was buying English books and i know he can read, write, and speak English. Maybe I'm crazy? Who knows at this point.
If you're in Shibuya and want to find a good read for cheap in English, make sure to hit up this Book Off!
