Halloween in America part 1: Trick or treating!
GEM'S Halloween event is coming up this weekend, so I figured I'd create two blog posts about different parts of American halloween! This post will be about trick or treating.
Trick or treating is what kids do on Halloween night in America. Everyone gets dressed up in costume and walks around their neighborhood, going from door to door and saying "trick or treat"! every house they visit gives them candy, sometimes a lot, sometimes a little, and the trick or treaters go until they've visited all the houses nearby.
When I was a kid, I carried a pillow case to hold my candy. My friends and I would walk around the neighborhood with our parents, visiting the houses who left their porch lights on. The houses themselves were often decorated with scary halloween decorations, and sometimes it was pretty scary to get close for a little child. But that's all part of the fun!
