Hello!
I've been thinking a lot about what I'd like to do when this joyous time in Japan comes to an end. It's not always a happy thing to think about, because I really enjoy living in this part of the world, but I know all good things must come to an end, and it's always been my plan to see as much of the world as I can. So part of my thinking is steeling myself for the stress of moving away from Japan, the anxiety of trying to find a new job / place to live, and the confusion of where I'll be going in the future. It's a big set of decisions that everyone faces, no matter where they're from or how old they are. Eventually, that which we find familiar and comfortable changes or leaves, and we have to adapt to something new and unfamiliar. It's one of our greatest strengths as a species that we are able to live within something strange or uncomfortable, and make it our own. Everyone who has left home for university is familiar with this, as is anyone who has had to start a new job.
The worst part for me is the anxiety and anticipation of the new and unfamiliar territory. I am forever envious of people who can look forward to a new or unfamiliar situation in a happy and positive way. In my own head, my first thoughts and instincts are always about the worst case scenario and how everything could turn out terribly. My brain is always my own worst enemy, however, because whenever I come into a new situation, it is never as bad as I think it might be, and more often than not, those new experiences are universally amazing and fun. So I know that no matter how stressed I am now, and how unsure I am of what will happen in the future, it will always be better when I actually encounter it.
