Kotohiki park
Hello!
Today, I want to relate the experiences of my past weekend. I was told that this past weekend was on of the best ones to see the Sakura blossoms, so some of the other Gem School teachers and I went to Kotohiki park and had one of the most enjoyable times I've had since coming to Japan. We didn't know it when we were planning the trip, but there was some karaoke going on in the afternoon just as we were arriving, and got to enjoy that while we ate lunch underneath the cherry trees. While we were eating, some students from the local highschool arrived and started talking to us, and joined us for lunch as well! It was a lot of fun hearing how young people in Japan talk, and while I didn't learn very many new words, it is always exciting to hear Japanese spoken by native speakers.
After lunch, we climbed up to the temple on top of the hill, and we were able to look down onto the beach and see the giant sand coin that has been there for hundreds of years. There was a small observation booth that you could look down onto it from, and the view was beautiful, even in the daytime. I was told that the evening is the best time to see it, as the sunset adds some spectacular majesty to it.
Kotohiki park is most certainly a place I would like to visit again. It is quite close to the beach as well, so it is very possible to spend the morning exploring the temples and views, and the afternoon lounging on the beach and swimming in the ocean! I'm looking more and more forward to summer every week!
