Rurouni Kenshin
I am a big fan of Rurouni Kenshin. I have watched the anime, including animated movies and OVAs. I have read the manga several times, having owned the whole series at one point. So naturally I had to watch the live action movies. I had watched the first one when it came out back in 2012. I was so happy, even though they had to tweak the story and characters a bit. It was such an awesome movie. I had been able to watch it with subtitles at the time, so I was able to follow it easily. Not the case with the two movies that came out this summer.

When I first discovered that a second Kenshin movie was coming out, I was ecstatic. The second (and third) movie would cover the Kyoto arc, where Kenshin would face off against one of his greatest opponents of the series: Shishio Makoto. Once again, the story and characters were changed a bit, to fit the flow of the movie. It was a little sad to see some major characters reduced to a minor role. If I had been able to follow the story completely, it probably wouldn't have bothered me as much. Unfortunately, my Japanese wasn't good enough to follow many parts of each movie. The one person who did not disappoint, though, was Shishio. In the anime/manga, he was a force to be reckoned with, definitely one of, if not the, strongest opponents in the series. However, in the movies, he is a complete monster. If I wasn't such of fan of the series already, he alone would be enough to go see the movie in theaters again. In fact, he was so amazing, I just had to go and buy a souvenir before I left the thearer, :D.
