Missing Sendai
I was living in Sendai until just after the earthquake, when I left to work here in Shikoku, as many of you know. I've been thinking about my former students there, as I often do, wondering what they're doing, how much the younger ones have grown, hoping they're doing well. Some of them I of course keep in touch with, but not everyone - there were just so many of them after so many years. I was looking at some of the photographs I still have of school events, the good times we had there. The photo is of the Hirose river, just outside my apartment. The apartment itself was a simple studio, and a little run down, but the location was great, near Tohoku university, and the river. In fact, just a way up the road, the banks of the river are quite wild, at a certain point you can't even see the road, and you feel like you're really out in the wilderness. I used to go swimming around there. Swimming against the current, I pretty much stayed in the same place, that's how strong it was. I hope everyone is doing well there.
