A Lot of Batteries

Coming to Japan can be a very jarring experience for an American, or really for any foreigner. One thing that can be very confusing for an American is the garbage system. In America we usually throw out all our trash together. In some areas there is also a recycling collection but that too is all together (all recyclable materials together). However in Japan it much more divided. There are many days for garbage pick up and the type of garbage is very important. For a long time I didn't know how or when to throw away used batteries. That was only problem for me because I never asked. As a result of this I managed to collect about two years worth of batteries; that amounts to 21.1 pounds (9.5 kg) of batteries. Here is a picture of the bag I put them in. Now the batteries have been properly disposed of and I am free of them.
