Local pride?

Local pride?

Everybody here seems to have heard about and read Bochan by Natsume Sosekiu but I was quite surprised to find out that not everyone here seems to know much about Kenzaburo Oe, the Nobel Prize winner for Literature, who is from Shikoku. I have yet to met anyone here who's actually read any of his works. If it were only because of his rather bleak outlook on humanity, I might understand that, but almost everyone knows about Yukio Mishima, and his outlook was far more sinister, ending as it did with his dramatic, rather public suicide. If it were because of Oe's oftentimes critical view of his fellow citizens, how do you explain Bochan which is not very flattering either. It leaves me puzzled about why that is so.
