Mochi

Mochi is a very small, Japanese rice cake. The rice is steamed and then pounded into the desired shape such as a small ball. You can purchase it in most supermarkets and some specialty shops around Japan. It typically comes in a small ball shape with three to a stick.
There is a small mochi street stand called Yakoya Omichi located in Kanonji. The mochi stand is only open twice a month on Sundays from 1400-1600. They make a variety of tasty mochi that is fresh and tasty. The line was long to get the mochi. There were over 25 people in line when they opened at 1400. It was worth the wait though!
