Japanese Prefectures
Japan is divided into 47 prefectures (similar to U.S. States). There are 43 actual prefectures (or Ken in Japanese); two urban prefectures call Fu (Osaka and Kyoto); one regional prefecture (Do) as in Hokkaido; and one metropolis (Tokyo).
The all differ in size, culture, and landscape. All have something interesting to offer or see; depending on what interests you. Local food, fruits, vegetables, etc. are all on offer in each prefecture.
I have been fortunate to visit 43 of the 47 prefectures in my travels within Japan. The only areas missing for me are Akita, Yamagata, Fukui, and Tottori. I will do my best in the near future to visit these places to complete my travels with the Japanese prefecture system.
