Light Pollution

I mentioned the Perseid meteor shower in a previous post, and it's finally almost at its peak! This might be the best time to see a shooting star all year round! On August 11-12, NASA predicts up to 100 meteors per hour can be visible if viewed from a location with low light pollution. The darker the sky, the better the chances.

Unfortunately, due to advertising in popular areas, it seems that light pollution will only continue to worsen in the future. Reducing the amount of light that escapes into the sky can be as simple as covering the tops of lights so they don't shine upwards, using motion sensor or timers on certain lights, and turning off lights for closed businesses. Making an impact requires people to work together towards a common goal, and that can't happen if the people running businesses and cities don't know or don't care about the problems they cause. I hope more people will talk about light pollution so that we can continue to enjoy the Perseid meteors for many years to come.Light Pollution
