Train Travel

The JR Kyushu Railway opened a new Shinkansen (Bullet Train) line at the end of September 2022. It is called the Kamome (or seagull). It runs from Hakata (Fukuoka) to Nagasaki, and takes about 60 minutes to ride the full distance.
It cuts the regular train time in half from 2 hours. There are stops in Fukuoka, Saga, and Nagasaki Prefectures. The ride is scenic, smooth, and pleasant. I recently traveled to Nagasaki and used the new train. It was quite a nice experience. The trains are new, well lit, and clean.
There are plenty of stops along the way at local areas as well as hot spring resorts to relax at and enjoy yourself.
The Japanese train system runs most everywhere except Okinawa Prefecture and Shikoku Island; and the Shinkansen runs on 3 of 5 of the Japanese main islands - from Hokkaido to Honshu to Kyushu. It does not run in Shikoku or Okinawa.
The cost is a bit expensive for some but, as a foreigner living in Japan, you can find deals on the JR Website (in English). There are deals for various regions that allow you to use a ticket for various travel spots for a significant discount (for up to 3-5 days). There is even a JR Shikoku Pass that allows you to travel anywhere on the island for 3 days!

If you have the time and money and want an interesting adventure, please try the Japanese train and Shinkansen system!
