Missing some of my favorite Korean food
Before moving to Japan, I spent around 3 years in South Korea either as an exchange student or doing research for my first master's degree. There are many things that make people fall in love with South Korea, and for me it was the food. One of the most commonly exported foods is Korean fried chicken, which has made its way to Shikoku en masse it seems as of a few months ago - there are a number of new restaurants. But one of the dishes that I cannot seem to find a good export of is my absolute favorite one, and the name of it is budae-jjigae 'army base stew'; I have only had it once in Japan, and it was in Osaka - it was okay.
Its' history dates back to the end of the Korean War, and is definitely not what someone would classify as healthy: instant ramen, hot dogs, spam, kimchi, gochujang, sliced cheddar cheese, sausage, and baked beans. Despite its unhealthiness and if eating it is not against any dietary restrictions you may have, I HIGHLY recommend it - it is absolutely delicious!!
