Congratulations to Matsuyama!
So as many of you know, I really enjoy watching sports, as well as playing whenever I can. I spent a little time watching this year's Masters Tournament, which is held in the United States. To my surprise at the end of the third round, a man by the name of Hideki Matsuyama was at the top of the leaderboard with four strokes ahead of the next golfer.
In the final round of play, he did lose a stroke and the lead did shorten, but in the end, he held on for the win by the narrowest of margins of one stroke. This made him the first Japanese male golfer to win a PGA major and he was born right here on the island of Shikoku, being born in the city of his namesake of Matsuyama.
While I was in Sakaide one day, Twothree and I had a little conversation about his victory while discussing sports. I can't speak for Japan of course, but I would imagine there may have been some pride in his win.
