The Names the Same
Recently some of my students discovered the joy of food having the same, or very similar, names in English and Japanese.
'What? Ramen is Ramen in English?', well yes. The pronunciation is slightly different, but the word is the same. As a general rule, people, places, and food, are the most likely to keep the name they have in their native language.
I can put together a description of sushi, but it is just simpler to attach the name and learn what it means, because nothing similar exists for a point of reference.
