Hurricane Dorian
A nasty hurricane named Dorian will be making landfall in Florida (U.S.A). What is a hurricane? A hurricane is a large rotating storm with high speed winds. In Southeast Asia they are called "typhoons." Safe to say, I'm nervous for everyone back home. Hurricanes are a pretty common thing in my home state of Florida. It is so common that sometimes people panic depending on the category of the hurricane.
Category 1: A hurricane with the windspeed of 74-95 miles per hour.
Category 2: A hurricane with the windspeed of 96-110 miles per hour.
Category 3 - A hurricane with the windspeed of 111-130 miles per hour.
Category 4 - A hurricane with the windspeed of 130-156 miles per hour.
Category 5 - A hurricane with the windspeed of 157+ miles per hour.
Usually if it is a category 1 or 2, my friends or family won't even bat an eyelash. If the hurricane is a category 3 or more... that's when the panic sets in! The weather forecasters are saying the hurricane coming should be a category 4! They're also saying Dorian should bring about 4 to 8 inches of rain and flash floods. I really hope that the hurricane weakens. I'll keep anxiously checking out the news online. All I can do now is hope for the best!
