My 4th of July in America
This week is a BIG holiday in America, the 4th of July, as we celebrate our independence and the birth of our nation! Just like in Japan, it is a time for family to get together, with many families taking extra holiday from work in order to have the full week off. We have summer festivals happening along with the holiday. Mostly, though it is time for family and picnics- either in the park or back yard. This is the way I have always celebrated. I would cook all day, the day before the 4th. Our family picnic was usually always grilled hamburgers and hot dogs, chicken or steak. The best "fixings" to go with it was of course, potato salad, barbecued beans, summer fruit salad with watermelon, and corn on the cob! Ice cream and fresh fruit pie for desert! Then there were backyard family games which almost always included "water"!! And FUN!!
What makes the 4th of July special besides the summer BBQ, was wrapping the day up with FIREWORKS!! Every small town and big city in American does fireworks. The entire nation lights up together in celebration! Happy birthday USA!!
