King Arthur The Musical

Over Golden Week Cami and I decided to take a little trip to South Korea. We spent a whole week there and did some amazing things. But I think my most memorable and favorite thing we did there was on the last day of the trip. During the entire week we were there we had been seeing advertisements for a musical, King Arthur. As Cami and I both studied theatre during college we were really intrigued. We had seen various shots of the costumes and the sets around the city and it looked amazing. So on the last day we were in Korea we decided that we really wanted to see it and tried buying tickets online for it. Unfortunately, the website wasn't working probably due to the issue of my phone using English characters and not Korean characters. So we decided to risk it and planned on buying the tickets at the theatre.

For those of you who don't normally attend the theatre, buying tickets at the door for a very popular show is extremely difficult and normally very expensive so we went through the day knowing that it probably won't happen but it wouldn't hurt to try. But as soon as we rounded the corner and saw the giant posters on the theatre our optimism soared and we then prepared ourselves for a huge let down.

We entered the theatre and found out that tickets went on sale 1.5 hours before curtain and we were there an hour early so we wandered around and found a strange museum. More on that later. But once we returned we found a huge line of people and we got worried. But we stood in line and found that there were only a few dozen seats left. And to make it even better we ended up getting a 30% discount on the tickets just because we were foreigners! We were so excited but now we had 1.5 hours to kill before curtain call so we grab dinner.

Once dinner was over and we were seated, the curtain rose and such an amazing display of acting, direction, costumes, choreography, vocal performance and set design was before us. Every single one of the actors on stage performed their hearts out and made the story so easy to understand despite it being in Korean. When King Arthur drew Excalibur from the stone during the opening song I knew it was going to be a fantastic show. And it was.

If you're in Korea before the end of May I highly, highly recommend going and seeing this show even if you're not a fan of theatre. I'm sure there is something you will love.
