Home for the Holidays
We just came back from a whirl wind trip "Home for the Holidays"!! Going wasn't too bad as we were filled with holiday excitement and anticipation, and we just had to fly up to Tokyo and catch a nonstop flight to Denver. Plus we gained a day!! Leaving on Friday and getting there on Friday! We had a long but uneventful flight and we were greeted with lots of hugs and smiles! Unfortunately with every household we went to, the smiles turned to "good-bye tears" all too quickly. Then back on the plane and onto Michigan and Indiana, where another group of family lives! More smiles, hugs and tears!
With every stop at every home, our bellies became bloated with huge American holiday meals, including homemade Christmas cookies and dessert! Everyone had heard how "beef starved" we were here in Japan as Kobe beef is too costly for the budget to eat very often! Therefore, they all seemed to want to outdo the other person, as multiple meals included huge Colorado Beef Prime Rib Roasts and Filet Mignon in the menu! Believe me, we have had our fill of beef to last at least the next coming year, or more!
With all the traveling from country to country, state to state, and home to home, two weeks were over in the blink of an eye!!
Especially when the last several days were spent getting back to Japan!! Starting with a 6 hour drive through the night to catch an early morning flight out of Chicago, followed by a flight to Denver, a flight to Vancouver, a flight to Tokyo, a bus ride from Haneda to Narita airports, an overnight in a hotel by the airport, and finally a flight into Takamatsu!! Also, coming back, we "lost" a day!! I know we had to make that up, but psychologically, it didn't help!! However, despite the long, tiring trip, amazingly, ALL the connections were on time and the weather was perfect! Not easy to achieve for January in Chicago and Denver! The only bump was that our luggage missed the plane and stayed in Vancouver! We finally received it here, at our door, just 2 days late! Thank you ANA!!
