Chosa Matsuri
Hi everyone!
I know a lot of the teachers may end up talking about this in the upcoming week's blog posts, but as it just happened, I wanted to talk about it.
Sunday, we attended Chosa Matsuri in Toyohama through the late afternoon and into the night as an every day general part of the public to see what it's like to go to a festival in Shikoku. We had the opportunity to wear happi coats and participate, but as it was our first festival in Shikoku, we wanted to go and get a feel for festivals first. I've only ever been to one other Japanese festival about two years ago in Kawagoe, Saitama, so I wanted to see how they differ down here in the south.
I have to say the festival was beautiful and a ton of fun! I really enjoyed the floats and how much effort is clearly put into making and carrying them; I was also impressed how many there were. The booths were also very cute, and I enjoyed having some festival food; I had a Mexican taco, lemonade, and a chocolate covered slice of pineapple; It was all very delicious! I also really enjoyed seeing all the people and talking to some of the locals who came up and asked us questions; Everyone was super nice!
At the end of the night, we followed one of the floats on a long walk through the town, and the lanterns on it were gorgeous! I love nighttime illuminations! Overall, I can say I had a blast and look forward to going to more festivals in the future!
