Something got stuck!?
The hanami party turned out okay! The weather held up, and the sun even made several appearances! Everyone had a great time!
Well, everyone except me. Near the very beginning, maybe around 11:30 am, I bought and ate some takoyaki from a nearby stand. After the second one, I felt a sharp pain in my throat. Something got stuck!
My wife though it might just be katsuobushi(?), and suggested just swallowing some rice to get it down (a common Japanese remedy, apparently). That did not work, but the pain was not so unbearable, so I just put up with it for the duration of the day. After we left the party, my wife and I stopped off at an udon shop, though I couldn't really get the urge to eat. Instead, I used the opportunity to check my throats in the mirror. And that's when I saw it! Whatever it was, I could see it at the back of my throat.
We went home, and attempted to take it out ourselves. I couldn't do it myself at all, so it was up to my wife to pull it out. Fortunately, we had tweezers available. Unfortunately, I have a bad gag reflex, so it took a while to figure out a good way for her ch into my throat. I ended up making a lot of weird noises that caused her to laugh too much, which delayed us getting it out.
Finally, we were able to pull it out! This is what it looked like:

It's really long! I was very fortunate that it didn't break off in my throat (I ended up breaking it afterwards, to see how strong it was).
The day wasn't very fun, but somehow we were able to enjoy our attempts on pulling it out, hahaha. Though I hope this never happens again!
