Thankfulness Challenge Part 2 of 4

I'm still continuing on with the Thankfulness Challenge! For those that may not be familiar, the Thankfulness Challenge is a 30 Day challenge where a person writes what they are thankful for. A lot of my friends back in America are partaking in this challenge. I hope my friends, students and loved ones in Japan can join me in this activity! I'm on Day 7 to 16. Here are my musings:

Day 7: Scent

I've always been partial to the scent of baked goods. Every time I walk into a bakery I want to pull up a chair and never leave. The smell of delicious bread, cookies and cakes is intoxicating!

Day 8: Restaurant

My favorite fast food restaurant back home was Pollo Tropical. It's best known for selling Cuban food. A lot of Americans in Florida adore Pollo Tropical. I can get rice, beans, sweet plantains, a salad, and a guava cheesecake very cheap there. The food is served fresh.

Since living in Japan my favorite restaurant is a self-serve okonomiyaki place. They give you the ingredients and you make the okonomiyaki yourself! The place is cozy and the food is super fresh!

Day 9: Blog/Website

Obviously GEM school's website and blog spot! You can view heartwarming photos of staff, teachers, and students. Plus the GEM blogs are filled with great stories from the foreign teachers! I read the GEM blogs religiously! I'm not just saying it because I work there either! I've learned recipes, interesting facts and chuckled at funny stories!

Day 10: Time of the Day

I like the early, early morning. The calm before the cars rush in the street, slowly but surely shops open up, and sometimes it's like you are the only person on the street.

Day 11: Tradition

I make it a habit to always post my personal goals before a new year starts. Before New Years I check to see what goals I have accomplished and what still needs to be done. I find I get more things done by writing it down and sending it out to the universe than not.

Day 12: Gadget

I'm pretty bad at using technology. If it's not for work I tend to not try and figure it out. I would say my laptop is my favorite gadget. I've recently started to make home videos of my travels and all my video programs are on my laptop.

Day 13: Something Old

My laptop. It's name is Old Faithful. The day I have to get a new one I will be sad. I tend to keep things for a long time before I replace them.

Day 14: Something New

My wedding ring! It's pretty awesome! I still stare at it and freak out (in a good way) that I'm married.

Day 15: Experience

I have so many great experiences. The one that comes to my mind the most is Gary and me's first trip to Japan together. It still remains my most favorite vacation ever! I think I need to blog about that trip!

Day 16: Recipe

One of our GEM teachers (Lanee) once blogged a delicious banana bread recipe. The recipe is linked below:

I hope you enjoyed the second half of my challenge answers. Part 3 will be posted next week. See you later, alligator!

Vacuuming Your Cares Away

Last week I went to Mega Don Ki, in the hope that I could find a vacuum, but they were either too expensive (Dyson), or they didn't seem to perform very well.

So I turned to the old stand-by, Amazon, and ordered one... which just arrived! I actually do enjoy cleaning, but it is also very easy to let it go for some time before it really bothers me. No more! Dusty corners and hard to reach places beware! I've got a vacuum and I'm not afraid to use it!
