Sports and the Internet
Overall, it is really lovely being in Japan. Being from Southern California, I much prefer the weather and climate here in Japan while experiencing the four seasons. Additionally, the public transportation is excellent, as well as the car driving being relatively easy and convenient. The food is fantastic as well. There is always a new dish or meal I want to try, and the fruits, vegetables, meat, pasta and sweets are all delicious. I'm not a picky eater to say the least. But....
One thing I do miss in the States is the sports. I grew up playing organized sports - baseball, basketball, and football. American football that is...not soccer, though I like all sports. MLB, the NBA, and the NFL have always captured my imagination. With the internet, it has become much easier to follow the thread of my favorite teams to see how they are trending. Sport seasons are full of interesting storylines with teams and individual players having their ups and downs.
At this time, the NFL is having their postseason playoffs with the first round producing some amazing results as the teams compete for the right to play in the Super Bowl. The 2nd half of the NBA season is now starting with many basketball teams deciding whether to make trades to better their playoff push, or to stand pat and compete with what they have. And MLB is in its off-season, but there have been some major free agent signings that will make the new baseball season starting this spring very interesting.
If I get the chance, I may have to go and see the Kagawa Five Arrows, which is a professional basketball team based in Takamatsu for the Japanese B. League. Or, perhaps I will go and see a professional baseball game in the Nippon Professional Baseball league at some time in the future as well. If not, I can always follow it online!
