Kobe Consulate
While wandering around the main shopping area of Kobe, near the Motomachi section of the city, I found a plaque that was dedicated to the former US Consulate in Kobe; the consulate was established around 1880 and has since been relocated to Osaka (about 40 years ago).
The plaque marks the building where the consulate was located, and it is now a café restaurant. It was an interesting piece of history that marked the beginning of merchant trade between the US and Japan over 140 years ago.
