Christmas Traveling!

Over the Christmas break, I did a lot of traveling. It was really fun to explore Japan and see several beautiful Japanese cities. The first city I went to was Kyoto -- I loved it there! The city is beautiful and there was so much to learn about Japanese history. Here is a picture from Noashima!

Old Fashioned Christmas cookies!

I spent Christmas at my friend's house in Yokosuka. We spent the whole day watching our favorite Christmas movies and made sugar cookies! We decorated them with American brand frosting and they turned out great! My friend made most of the cookies in that photo. I was very jealous of her Christmas ghost!

Bounenkai with the family

I know it’s already the new year, but I thought I would share my experience of a bounenkai with my wife’s family. It is my second year doing so, and this time was a bit more comfortable than last year. That is probably because last year we had to leave halfway through (can’t remember the reason). I’m still getting used to the idea that they are my family (I’m still not sure how to call out to my father-in-law; do I say Dad? Otousan?). I believe they probably feel the same, somewhat, but they are opening up to the idea as well.
It was a fun time, though still a bit difficult, because I’m still not great even with small talk with my level of Japanese. I don’t know what it is, but whenever I talk with them, it seemed like the topics are somewhat sophisticated, or at least involves a lot of words or topics I can’t seem to grasp easily. However, in the end, it was still a pleasant time with the family, and I look forward to next year's bounenkai with them!
