Hobbies?

In regards to hobbies, I have noticed a few things since coming to Japan. First of all, for the most part. it seems like most people I meet tend to have one serious hobby that they are into (with the rare occasion of meeting someone with two or three). This means that, for the most part, there is only one thing they tend to do in their free time, whether it be sports related, something more relaxing (like reading), or something that improves a specific skill (like sewing, or baking). So whether they be a student, going to school and juku most of the time, or an adult, who spends most of their week at work, they all only seem to spend time on one thing if they ever have the free time (to do on their own). I find this both commendable and a bit weird. See, if I was to say what my hobby as, I would say I "dabble" in things. What I mean is, I enjoy trying a little bit of everything. I feel like this works for and against me. For someone whose hobby is only one thing, they will most likely focus on that one thing whenever they can, improving their skills or knowledge to potentially master it (if they feel so inclined). Whereas in my case, since I always want to try something different, I never focus on getting better in any one thing, which means I will never be able to perfect my skills in anything. On the flip side, if I WAS to focus on only one thing, then I feel like I would miss out on so many other amazing and interesting things to do. Also, if I was to focus mastery only in one thing, then maybe I would not know how to do anything else. So while I am happy being able to explore things, I do tend to get jealous of people who are able to do things so well. Not saying that I get upset if they do something better than me, just that I don't think I will ever obtain a skill to make other people think the same.
