Snow! In Japan????

Well, another week has passed. It has now been three weeks since I have arrived in Japan, and I still can’t believe that I am here! I think I should probably tell you all a little bit more about myself, eh?
I think I covered this in the last post, but my name is Taylor, and I am one of two Canadians who teach at GEM School. I am from the Canadian prairies, where it is currently below freezing (last I checked it was -25° Celsius), with snow up to my knees. I have lived in Canada almost all of my life, with a brief stint in Florida, and now Japan. Growing up in Canada was an amazing experience, as it truly is a diverse and exciting country with so many different people and cultures to explore. I speak English, and a tiny bit of French, and maybe 20 words of Japanese (which I do hope will grow to be 2000 very, very soon). My family is fairly large, and can be a bit complicated. I have my mother and brother, as well as my father, step-mother, step-sister, and step-brother. I am the oldest of the four children, and obviously the best. I won’t go into how many cousins I have, or we would be here all night!
I got to see my first snowfall here in Japan! It was incredible! The snowflakes fell in huge, fluffy clumps the size of an egg, and it barely touched the ground before it melted. The snow lasted only a few minutes before it turned into rain, but it was still amazing. If I was back home in Manitoba, Canada and we had that kind of snow, it would go on for hours, and we all would be scurrying around trying to get everything prepped in case of a blizzard (which is a fairly common occurrence on the Canadian prairies.)
There are many more things that I love, and reading is a big passion of mine, and I don’t think I will ever, ever be able to read enough books to satisfy me. My three weeks in Japan has made me develop a love for my e-reader that I never thought I would have, but as it would have been way too expensive to ship all of my books over to Japan I have very quickly grown attached to that sweet little device. If anything ever happens to it, I may go crazy. Before fulfilling the dream of ten-year-old me to come live in Japan, I was taking courses to get my credentials as an editor so I could work for a publishing house and edit books for a living. It would mean everything to me to give back to literature at least a portion of what it has given to me by making all future books the very best version of themselves that they can be and hopefully that even just one of those books will be able to reach into the heart of a single person and connect to them on a personal level would be one of the most rewarding things I could do, besides teach children a new language.
Now that this post has gotten a tad more personal than I had intended (and quite a bit longer), I think it is a good time to sign off and start on my weekend chores. I hope you all have a great weekend, and I will see you at GEM!
