Ice Bucket Challenge

In the past week I have noticed many posts on Facebook regarding the "Ice Bucket Challenge". This challenge was set forth by the ALS foundation. What is ALS? Well, ALS is Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. It's a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Basically you begin losing the ability to control your body as the motor neurons begin to die. Sadly, this is a fatal illness. When the brain completely shuts down, the patient passes away. So, what's with the "Ice Bucket Challenge"? Well, it was originally meant to bring awareness to the illness so that more people could donate to aid in finding a cure for the disease, however, what I see now is sad. On Facebook when you are challenged, you apparently have 24 hours to fulfill the challenge. From my own experience, if you state that you would rather donate, the people who challenge you call you a "cop out" which means you gave into the easy way. Well, I view it as opposite. To me, dumping a bucket of ice over your head is easy, but donating $100.00 to help aid in a cure for an illness that I know little about is the real challenge. People put too much faith in money which causes them to be greedy with their funds. With that being said, the true challenge isn't dumping a bucket of ice over your head, it is giving that $100.00 that you may or may not have available to give for something that could save someone's life, possibly even your own, in the future. So, yes, I have been challenged to the "Ice Bucket Challenge" and sure, I can dump a bucket of ice over my head, but, in truth, I'd rather worry about what to eat for a day and donate the money rather than show everyone that I can dump some cold water on my head. If you would like to know more about ALS, I have posted a link to the page below (Sorry, it's in English).
