My friend Chany
This my friend Chany, a young man in Cambodia, cousin of the other friend I wrote about in an earlier blog. They're from the same small village out in the country. As I mentioned, Khov, the other friend has become a veterinarian, and is working in the ministry of agriculture now. Chany here has just finished his studies in nursing and hopes to find a job as a nurse in a hospital either in Phnom Penh, or Seam Reap (Angkor Wat). I hope he finds one in Seam Reap since I'll have a good excuse to visit Angkor Wat. I've been there already a couple of times, but love returning. Chany and Khov have been lucky to stay in the Buddhist temple facilities in the capital, while they study. That's how the monks help young students, providing them with room and board. I lived through the terrible times of the bombings of Cambodia and Laos, that went on for about 7 (?) years. I was living in Italy at the time. "Everything that fires against anything that moves." That was the order. Against civilians, animals, carpeting the country with cluster bombs which are still killing people today. In my small way making amends for those days. A gentle kind people who deserve the right to live and prosper like anyone else, don't you agree?
