Wayfaring Part 2

Wayfaring Part 2
The rap on the door echoed through my mind. We were going to die, no doubt about it. It was the end for us for sure. He looked over to me and then back to the door and gave it another knock, a little harder that time. I peered into the window and saw the woman setting her child down on the sofa. She then turned to the door and walked over to it. It was all a little odd and concerning at the same time.
She opened the door and with a pleasant voice asked, “May I help you?” Jamie looked at me and motioned for me to come over. I hesitated when I got up, but I did. I walked over to him, cautiously. When the woman saw me she smiled, it was kind of creepy how calm she was. “My friend and I got lost in the woods,” said Jamie, calmly. “We were wondering if you could give us some shelter until daybreak, and perhaps a bit of food to eat.” Jamie put on his charmer smile. The woman smiled and I could tell she blushed a bit when she saw his radiant face light up with his smile. “O-of course. I don’t have much, but please, come in.” I had to give Jamie props though, he was good and stuff like this. He was the charmer, I was the aggressor.
The woman opened the door wide, letting us into her warm home. The child on the sofa was silent, it didn’t make a sound when two absolute strangers came into the house. “Creepy....” I thought to myself.
Jamie turned to the woman and put on his best smile. “Thank you, madam.” The woman blushed and replied, “The pleasure is mine.”
I rolled my eyes and walked over to the fire, eyeing the child as I stepped by it. Nothing seemed real anymore, even Jamie. He seemed different somehow, like something was broken or malfunctioning inside of his brain. “We really appreciate the hospitality.” I said to the woman. She turned to me and smiled softly. “It is wonderful to have guests. The pleasure is most assuredly mine.” I turned to the fire and knelt down. It was warm. Feeling the heat of the fire made me almost forget about the giant crack in the sky, the screaming, the panic, it made me nearly forget about it all.
