It is useful in teaching a language to learn at least some of the history of said language, so that the teacher may have more information at their disposable when answering questions put forth by students. I took a course during my undergrad degree which provided a broad overview of the history of English with respect to the sound and grammar changes. And I have been meaning to brush up on my Old English, because it is an interesting language in its own right, so I have been slowly making my way through the book pictured below. With my proficiency in German, Dutch, and Swedish, the learning process is going a lot smoother than I initially thought it would. Hopefully things continue to go smoothly.
