When traveling and living abroad, you can enjoy all the new experiences, cultures and food, but there is a comfort that comes from seeing certain business icons from home that help cure the homesickness that can creep in sometimes. This week especially, because the 4th of July is a big holiday in America and family gets together from all over the country to celebrate the nation's birthday.

Businesses that immediately come to mind are Coca Cola, McDonald's, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Domino's Pizza, Krispy Kreme Donuts, Taco Belle, Disney Land and STARBUCKS! Domino's is my favorite, but Starbucks is too. I think more from the "smell" of the coffee than the coffee itself. The smell of brewing coffee brings comfort as it makes you feel like you are at home, just getting up in the morning to face the day.

I've always collected Starbucks mugs. They have one for every state in the Union. States are similar to prefectures here, like Kagawa. I mainly lived in two states, Michigan where I grew up and Colorado where I spent the last 20 years. So naturally, I have a mug for each state! Japan loves the mugs too! I now have a BIG collection of mugs from Japan! There is a mug for every season and for most cities!
