How to Say Goodbye (pt. 2)

All good things must come to an end. As foreshadowed in my last blog there are more students I have to say goodbye too. Because I only teach in Niihama one day a week, when a student can't come to class on Saturday, then our time together is at an end. Which is the case for the three students I'm talking about today. They are all going into Junior High, so they won't have time for a Saturday class.

Braelyn hasn't been my student for very long, but in that time she has shown herself to be creative and inquisitive. She routinely creates sentences and uses words that she barely understands in an attempt to expand her own knowledge. Sometimes with humorous results. She also has a talent for drawing, especially pictures of me as a Minion, or a gorilla, or a bear...or in a dress.

This has been my only term having Melinda as a student. Last time I asked, she wanted to become an English teacher. On day one, I think she was a bit overwhelmed. She was quiet and so shy. Now, as we near the end, she has become a much more vibrant personality. She laughs more. Her smile derives from joy and not from awkwardness. Unless her dream changes, she will be an awesome teacher someday.

Another terminally shy case was Pamela. For almost two full terms I've been her teacher and watched her slowly coming out of her shell. There was never any doubt she is a hard worker. Her list of lessons and additional classes is as long as my arm! She did lack confidence at the beginning. Now, well, sometimes she even makes fun of me. Her sense of humor is a bit dry, I hope that isn't my fault.

Even if I don't ever get to see them again, I want them to know that I will be rooting for them.
