So this is a Typhoon

Last Tuesday the first Typhoon hit since I arrived in Japan. It rained, a fair amount. There was wind, a bit stronger than normal. Overall it just seemed like a storm.
I'm glad there was no serious damage in Saijo, but it was a bit surprising. Thunderstorms are very common where I come from and during spring you hold your breath a little every time one starts. That is tornado season, and when the wind is blowing at fifty or sixty miles an hour, it can be pretty nerve wracking.
Weather is an interesting thing. You should never underestimate it. That being said, it really was a minor Typhoon. In the US, we love to qualify and quantify, so we use a scale for earthquakes, tornadoes, hurricanes, and pretty much every kind of natural event. I wonder if there are classifications for the Typhoons here?
