Another Winter Movie

Here's yet another fun TV special made by Rankin/Bass! It's called Jack Frost, after the main character. A long time ago in America, when you saw frost on your window on a winter morning, people would say that a spirit named Jack Frost put it there. This movie is about that spirit.

In this movie, Jack Frost has fallen in love with a human girl. He wants to become a human too, so that he can be with her. Father Winter says he can try being a human, but he has some rules. Jack Frost must get a house, a horse, a bag of gold, and a wife by the first day of spring. If he doesn't, he'll become a spirit again. But it's very difficult for Jack Frost to get these things. The village where the girl lives is ruled by an evil king who keeps everyone very poor. Will Jack be able to defeat the bad king and get everything he needs by the first day of spring?

This movie mentions Christmas (in December) and Groundhog Day (in February), so it's a nice movie to watch for any time in winter! Have you ever seen this one?

Hello Gorgeous!

On our way to Kochi, the drive was very pleasant. Josie is a fantastic driver and didn't get carsick even in the mountains. The Oboke and Koboke gorge was our sightseeing companion the whole day. I really loved the views. It was gorge-ous!

Name That Elf!

Hello everyone! How was your Christmas?
I've been telling everyone I had a "Kagawa Christmas" because it's true; I did not travel for the holidays. I was in need of some rest and relaxation and home organization after my first busy year at Gem School. I spent the break tidying up and preparing for the New Year with Tony.

Prior to the break I created a fun cultural Christmas Quiz for my cyber students. If you're a teacher reading this, you can probably answer the question with ease, but for my students, they had no clue if that jolly elf was named Dudley, Buddy, or Smiley. Most guessed "Smiley" with only one student guessing "Buddy" correctly. I was amazed! In America, or my family at least, Elf is a beloved Christmas movie that I have half memorized after watching it so many times.

When I was in middle school, my three-year-old niece lived with us for a short time. I remember watching Elf and Tangled with her over and over again, to the point that we still have inside jokes and references that we make regularly. We call each other "fruitcake" as a fun nickname which references the film. Ah, good memories.

I hope your holiday was swell! Now, back to reality!

Illuminations

It was a great start to December after having visited my best friends in the U.S. I had the chance to hang out with some of my friends to see the illuminations at Mannou park. The last time I saw any illuminations was back in Nagoya around 2016-2017. It was a wonderful experience!
