Here in Indonesia there are lots of animals on the road. So far I have seen cows, chickens and lots of dogs. I imagine there are monkeys also and will go to the mountains soon and hopefully see some. There are many dogs here and they are sometimes just lying in the street or following you in the dark and barking.  

The other day I had lunch at a place up on a hill overlooking the bay. The building and view were beautiful while the food was not very good. The restaurant was an Indian place. I really like Indian food and find that Indian restaurants in Japan are often very good.
I still enjoyed it as the view was spectacular and the wind blowing in the mountains was nice.  

This is a wonderful smoothie bowl at a cafe in Indonesia. The bright colored fruit is called dragon fruit. The bowl has many different types of fruit and is very filling. Recently I have been eating smoothie bowls because they are filling and healthy.  

These are the mountains near Niseko ski resort. I took this photo near the top of a small peak. It was a very short and easy hike and a very beautiful view. During the autumn the temperature is very nice and I enjoyed sitting and looking out across the mountains.  

Once autumn comes the pumpkins are piled around the station area in Niseko, Hokkaido. I guess this is because it is harvest time. I think it looks very nice and relaxing. Autumn is quite nice. The day time highs are still pleasant and evenings get cool and you need a blanket. It is also a gtreat time for hiking.   

This is mount Yotei in early autumn. The skies are getting a clear kind of feeling to them and the farms are harvesting the plants. I think these are beans you can see in the foreground.  

Summer in Hokkaido is coming to an end. There are still some people and dogs out playing in the ocean though. The waves in the autumn are actually pretty good because the wind changes giving more shape to the waves.   

Here is a nice photo of a Hokkaido sunrise near the ocean. I really enjoying taking photos of the sunrises and sunsets. I usually take more photos of the sun setting more than the sun rising. When the sun is low on the horizon, the sunlight travels through more of the atmosphere. Shorter wavelength colors are scattered out, which leaves more of the longer wave length colors. This is what causes the yellow, orange and red colors.  

These are small Japanese amber jack fish washed up on shore. There was a huge school of fish near the beach and lots of birds flying down and catching the fish. It was quite interesting to watch.  

These are wind power machines on top of a hill in Hokkaido. I have head that there wind power turbines being built off the shore in Japan. Japan has power shortage problems maybe this will help.  

Photo of the Sea of Japan. The sea of Japan is quite nice but has less waves that the Pacific side of Japan. This photo was taken from the top of a hill in Hokkaido. I wanted to take a photo but there were many Japanese hornets flying around so I could only take a quick photo.  

Hokkaido has a much shorter growing season for rice than other parts of Japan. The farmers had to develop different varieties of rice. Hokkaido is now the number one rice producing prefecture in Japan.  

This is a Japanese amber jack fish. I saw a fisherman in Hokkaido and he had one of these on the line. It was really interesting to watch him catch the fish.   

During the summer there are lots of different flowers in Hokkaido. These flowers are called Lupinus or lupine and there are a few different colors.   

Summer has arrived in Hokkaido. There are many farms in Hokkaido. Potatoes, broccoli, corn, and many other crops are grown in Hokkaido. Summer in Hokkaido is basically for the months of July and August. Summer is very beautiful and I enjoy looking at all the beautiful farms.  

During the summer there are alot of bugs in Hokkaido. The black fly is one bug that causes a very itchy and painful bite.
They often come out around dusk and like to bite exposed skin which is often around the ankle areas. The bites become irritated and swollen by the next day. They are quite painful and last a few days.   

There is so much snow in Hokkaido during the winter, that even in the summer the snow is still around. This hike was done in June and the snow is still around. This snow melts into the rivers and makes for nice rafting in the spring time.  

Now that the summer has almost arrived, more people are participating in water sports. This is someone enjoying kayaking in Shiribetsu river. It is mid June and the weather in Hokkaido is quite nice. It gets up to about 20 degrees in the day and cools down to around 10 or 15 degrees at night.  

It is still spring time in Hokkaido even during June. There is still some snow in the mountains and flowers down below. During the night the temperature goes down below 10 degrees celsius.   

This is a woodpecker. I think it is a bird called a kumagera. The black woodpecker is the largest woodpecker in Japan and is quite rare.
I enjoy walking around in the forest and taking photos of birds. It requires patience and is also relaxing at the same time. When I saw this bird I was actually trying to photograph a different type of bird and saw this one.
