Today is a very rare day! February 29th only comes around once every four years. There's a joke that if you're born on this day, you only get older once every four years. So a person who is 32 years old would only really be 8 years old!

One of my favorite musicals is called The Pirates of Penzance. I have seen it on stage many times, and I have watched the movie a ton as well.



That joke about being born on February 29th is a key part of the plot in this musical. There is a young man who wants to leave his pirate gang and start an honest life. He thinks his contract says he can leave when he is 16 years old. But his contract actually says he cannot leave until his 16th birthday. Since he was born on February 29th, it will take a long time until he has 16 birthdays!

This is a really fun musical. I recommend it, but they often talk very quickly during the songs. Have you ever seen it?
